This canoe paddle trail down the Murray River from Tailem Bend towards Wellington provides a number of options for exploring local backwaters. The four sections have been designed to enable you to plan a safe journey – based on skill and fitness level.

Starting from Clayton Bay Boat ramp, this loop trail takes paddlers along the Murray River to Boundary Creek, and then on to the Tauwitchery Barrage, before returning to launch point.

A loop trail starting at Wongulla boat ramp and passing through Wongulla lagoon and Manuka lagoon, then on to Walker Flat, returning to launch point. Alternatively this paddle can commence at Walker Flat and be completed in the opposite direction.

Two trails are presented as individual round trips in opposite directions from Parnka Point campground
in the Coorong National Park.

After setting off from McBeans Pound north of Blanchetown, this paddle trail goes through two lagoons – Irwin flat lagoon and Donald flat lagoon. There are low bridges at both ends of Irwin Flat lagoon which may not be easily traversed if the river level is raised. Return is via the Murray River.

The trail begins at Blanchetown and goes through Cumbunga Creek to roonka conservation park. For paddlers traversing this stunning lagoon and creek, a number of “canoe trees” can be seen and there is always an abundance of birdlife on the river and in these backwaters.

This trail takes the paddler through two picturesque lagoons off the Murray River, each with abundant birdlife. There are two portages of about 250m at the northern end of each lagoon (Murbko Flat lagoon and Irwin flat lagoon) and one across a bridge at the southern end of Murbko flat lagoon with return via the river.

A loop trail that takes paddlers into Lake Alexandrina from Wellington at the southern end of the River Murray to Point Pomond and return.
